Il progetto è finanziato dall’8×1000 della Tavola Valdese ed è realizzato nello stato del Red Sea, in Sudan, dall’Associazione Microfinanza e Sviluppo Onlus, in partenariato con PASED.
Le donne che fanno parte di queste associazioni sono principalmente delle commercianti. L’adesione a tali gruppi permette loro di rafforzare le proprie competenze, di gestire collettivamente le proprie esigenze imprenditoriali verso un’autonomia economica e sociale. Grazie a queste associazioni, le donne possono accedere a servizi finanziari, come i gruppi di risparmio o i prestiti di istituzioni di microfinanza che si basano sulla garanzia solidale.
- 13 gruppi e oltre 520 persone sono state coinvolte nelle iniziative di educazione finanziaria.
- 104 persone con una funzione di coordinamento in questi gruppi hanno ricevuto formazione in gestione e contabilità.
- 120 donne che conducono attività generatrici di reddito sono state formate sui temi del risparmio e credito. Un’attività che ha permesso di selezionare 5 gruppi di donne con cui avviare un ulteriore percorso di accompagnamento.
Il progetto “Più forti insieme” ha preso avvio nel febbraio del 2024 e continuerà fino alla fine dell’anno. PASED, local partner del progetto, è un’associazione sudanese che fornisce servizi di formazione, accompagnamento e inclusione finanziaria a decine di gruppi di donne nella regione di Port Sudan, nello stato del Red Sea. Si tratta di uno dei pochi stati in cui le attività ancora continuano nonostante il feroce conflitto interno scoppiato nell’aprile del 2023, e per per questo motivo è zona di afflusso di centinaia di migliaia di sfollati interni. Si stima che 10.7 milioni dei circa 51 che costituiscono la popolazione del Sudan sia attualmente sfollata. Quasi 240.000 di questi sfollati all’inizio dell’anno erano ospitati nel Red Sea State, in larga parte nella capitale, Port Sudan, città di circa 450.000 abitanti (Fonte: OCHA situation report January 2024). Il persistere del conflitto, e le recenti inondazioni che hanno toccato gli stati confinanti di Gedaref e Kassala, hanno esacerbato la situazione e intensificato la pressione dell’accoglienza degli sfollati interni nella regione. In questo contesto, Associazione Microfinanza e Sviluppo Onlus e PASED lavorano per garantire opportunità di vita e di lavoro a donne locali e sfollate, affinché possano avere gli strumenti per resistere alle sfide dell’attuale contesto e costruire prospettive future.

In the difficult context of the ongoing conflict and recent floods that hit the country, training activities of project “Stronger Together” have started in August 2024.
The Project is financed by the Waldensians Table in Italy, and implemented in Red Sea State, in Sudan, by Associazione Microfinanza e Sviluppo Onlus, in partnership with PASED.
Women associations involved
On the 7th and 8th of August, three Women associations, Laha, Alrahma & Tasamuh e Marasi, have gathered 75 women to participates to a training sessions of Basic Business Skills. It’s a dedicated training module, developed by PASED, with addresses specifically women workers and entrepreneurs. Starting from leadership capacities of women, trainers then focus on trade negotiation techniques, sales strategies and capacity to adapt to customers.
Women who belong to these associations are mainly traders. Membership in these associations is a way to reinforce their competencies, jointly manage their entrepreneurial needs and contribute to their economic and social empowerment. Thanks to these associations women can have access to financial services, such as savings groups or small loans from financial institutions that adopt solidarity group as a guarantee.
“Stronger Together” project provides training and coaching services to 5 women associations, counting about 50 members each. On August 2024 the first three associations have begun their activities on financial education, leadership and business capacities, and well as a specific coaching activity to start and/or reinforce their small entrepreneurial activities.
Women groups have been identified after a large awareness, sensitization and training activity, held from February to April 2024

The project
“Stronger togehter” project started on February 2024 and will finish by the end of the year. PASED, the local partner, is a Sudanese organization providing training, coaching and financial inclusion services to tens of women groups in Port Sudan area, Red Sea state It’s one of the few states where these activities can continue after conflict broke up on April 2023, and for this reason it’s the destination of a large inflow of displaced people. About 10.7 Million people, of the 51 million population of Sudan, are estimated to be displaced. At the beginning of 2024, more than 240.00 displaced people were hosted Red Sea state, mainly in the capital city, Port Sudan, which has about 450.000 inhabitants (Source: OCHA situation report January 2024). The ongoing conflict, as well as floods hitting neighbouring Gedaref and Kassala states, have contributed to worsen the situation as the inflow on people increased pressure on host community in the region. Within this framework, Associazione Microfinanza e Sviluppo Onlus and PASED work to give life and work opportunities to displaced and resident women, so to support their resilience to current challenges and build future perspectives.
